Paul Charney LLB (Hons)

Managing Director

Paul is the founder and managing director of Landhold Capital. He is a City trained property finance lawyer with experience from leading law firms and commercial in-house environment. He has headed the Legal departments of property and investment companies for a number of years, dealing with commercial property and strategic land.

He has broad experience in structuring deals for bespoke finance and tax requirements dealing with both private offshore clients and large funds. He deals with the raising of finance through equity based private offshore investors.  Paul sits on the board of a number of charities and is a keen cricket fan.

Brian Smith BA (Hons)

head of land and Planning

Brian is a Town Planner with over 30 years’ experience in the UK planning and house building sector. He spent 10 years as a Director of national developers including George Wimpey, Prowting Projects, Laing Homes and culminating as Managing Director of George Wimpey Strategic Land.

He was responsible for the strategic land divisions of these companies before joining Landhold Capital in 2008. He has also been a director of several joint venture companies set up by various consortia of housebuilders to promote and develop the largest of their schemes, for example Northern Sector Swindon, Quedgley Gloucester, Cambourne Cambridge, Witney and Upper Heyford Oxford.

Brian was a non-executive member of a major Housing Association for a number of years providing guidance and governance focused particularly on planning, site acquisition and a more commercial approach to development. A highly respected industry professional he unwinds on the golf course and is often found on the more temperate coastal courses of southern Spain.
